I had a BLAST today!!! I focused on economics today, so I traveled down to the Financial District. On my way, I visited St. Paul's Chapel, where George Washington participated in worship services. This church was also used as a makeshift center that provided sleeping arrangements, supplies, and food to emergency workers after the 9/11 tragedy.
Next, I participated in a walking tour of Wall Street, where I learned A LOT of valuable information from a former Wall Street stockbroker to take back and share with my students and colleagues. I got to see the "Charging Bull" on Wall Street, as well. I also visited the Museum of American Finance, which was a wonderful museum!! After checking out the New York Stock Exchange, I visited Federal Hall (across the street). This was where George Washington was sworn in as President and was the first headquarters of our federal government. Neat stuff!!!!!
Lastly, I walked down the street and visited the 9/11 Memorial Museum and reflecting pools. This was a wonderful experience. As you approach the museum, there are represent the footprint of the actually North and South towers that collapse on 9/11. The reflecting pools are surrounded by a metal rail that has the names of all of the victims on it. The museum, which recently opened, was incredible. It brought back a lot of memories. Most importantly, it taught me so much. I thought I had a good grasp on 9/11 because I was a young adult when it occurred, but it was great to see and read about things from a local's perspective. Hearing people share their stories was simply amazing.
Another great day! See ya'll tomorrow!!! :)
