My last day in NYC was another exciting one! I began my day bright and early at the MOMA (Museum of Modern Art). While I am not usually a true "appreciator" of art, it was neat to get to see work done by Van Gogh, Andy Warhol, and Pablo Picasso in person.
I then traveled about an hour away by rail to Coney Island. Coney Island is said to be the first amusement park in America. I wanted to go here, but I was wondering if it was worth the hour ride or not... I was so shocked when I got there! I LOVED CONEY ISLAND!! It had such a cool vibe. There were lots of rides for kids and teenagers to ride on. There was a boardwalk with lots of shops, restaurants, and people singing karaoke! A lot of people were hanging out at the beach. I got to eat at Nathan's Hot Dogs where the hot dog eating contests take place every year. I also got to watch an old time "freak show" with performers doing all kinds of acts-swallowing knives, playing with fire, and more! Coney Island was one of my favorite parts of the trip! A lot of New Yorkers go there to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
I ended my day by traveling back to Manhattan and taking an evening/night water cruise around the island. It was beautiful! It was so cool to see all of the places I had traveled the previous nine days from the water.
I LOVED my time in NYC. It's a wonderful city, and people (myself included) have a lot of misconceptions about it. I just wish I could have taken my students with me!! But, I am excited to get back home and start sharing everything I learned with them! I have learned so much this past week, and I am so grateful to everyone who helped to provide me with this once in a lifetime opportunity.
